Hello and Home Tour

Published on 17 January 2025 at 10:37

Hello!

I'm Kaylia McLeod, and this is my first blog post! I'm also going to be starting a YouTube channel, hopefully posting soon! I have been married nine years about to be ten yours in September. I am a mother to two little girls, I have a love of Homemaking, interior design, home decorating, DIY and thrifting! So, lots of niche areas for me to write about, explore and hopefully make entertaining content. I have big ideas, and dreams when it comes to my brand Made By Mcleod, so with luck, perseverance maybe this can be something great!  well with all that in mind let's get on to a home tour.

Entry Way

The first area of my home to see is the entry way. When my husband and I bought our home, the previous owners put up a pretty accent wall with hooks, it is really nice. I'm hoping to make some changes that suits the needs of my family. I would like to add more trim to the insides of the boxes to dress it up, make the shelf the painting sits on a bit bigger while still giving clearance for the closet opposite the front door to open. New hooks that have a deeper hook for things to sit on, I'm finding that everyone likes to have more than one jacket or bag or back packs on this wall. It definitely needs a new coat of paint; I'm thinking of a calming blue.  You might notice that my favorite color is blue as we continue through the house.

Formal Sitting Room

This is my favorite room of the entire house. hTe chesterfield tufted Lether couch and the matiching chair are so soft and comfortable, I had my eye on this type of style of years, I was lucky to find the perfect size and affordable option at the At Home store.

the coffee tabel here is a Facebook Marketplace find from a few years a go. the previus owner said it used to be a dining table, that their grandpa had cut down the senter support to lower it making it into a large coffee table, the legs on it are so beautiful and the table portion give a lot of space for styling and a place for guests to set down a drink. I do need to work on it a little bit the stain on it is not quite right for the vision I have in mind, i wonder do I go light or dark stain? let me know in the comments section.

The curio cabinet is sentimental. I inherited this piece for my late grandmother. she kept a collection of dolls in it. Now it holds mine and my husband's Harry Potter collection, and some beautiful books I've collected over the years. this piece is perfection it is antique so I will never change it maybe just how things are arranged in it.

I love the windows in this room, I'm so lucky to have such large windows that face west, they pour light in for the entire house in the evenings. I Love the bench seat, my two cats Anna and Rosie love them even more.

The rug was a great find from the At Home store a few years  ago, I think it was on sale. it whowever is very dirty! i have a carpet steam cleaner but it still doesnt seem to get it cleaned up. I'm thinking of taking a pressure washer to it this summer, hopefully that would work, but I'm all ears if someone has a better idea!

Dining Room

this room is so nice, and pretty specious for this style of house. I have another set of bay windows that is begging for a bench seating for my cats and kids to enjoy looking out over the back yard. I don't think I can use this for seating at a dining table though, I don't think it would be too comfortable. the chandelier was a birthday gift form my husband, I'm attached to it but it's starting to maybe feel a little outdated and a bit out of touch with what I like now, so maybe I may change that in the future. The dining table was a Walmart find several years ago that I don't quite remember when we got it, it's cute. it is however small, so my husband and I are planning to build our own table in the future.

Kitchen

This Kitchen looks pretty is a really good size but has several problems. So in the near future it is going to get a major face lift. we are talking stone countertops, new cabinetry, and potentially appliances, however I do like the black stainless. My husband and I thought it was so cool, now we are liking the idea of panel ready appliances that will look like built in cabinetry because stainless steel scratches and the fingerprints are endless with little kids, I've never been able keep it clean.

Family Room

My husband a month before our first daughter was born got a crazy idea to build me a fireplace. I love it, but we lived in a construction zone with a newborn for a little bit, I don't recommend it. my husband did all of this himself, it's really impressive to me how I gave him a picture of a fireplace and he designed and planned all this out. the cabinets are a bit of a tricky thing to figure out but after watching several videos he got it, and they are such a luxury to have closed storage for all the little girl toys, and to have an easy toy rotation.

the couches are no ordinary couches, they are very deep, my husband is pretty tall, so we needed something large enough to fit his frame comfortably. I'm pretty small so I kind of fit every were with room to spare.

The rug I found form home depot of all places, its pretty nice for the girls to play on, and it actually stays very clean despite being so light color.

The sconces were a birthday gift this last year. I love them! They look like something you would see from Mcgee and Co., but I found them on amazon! (link here)

The candle stick holder is amazingly form the dollar tree. The black bud vase was a gift from my husband, he took pottery in high school and made alot of beautiful pieces that i love to decorate with. the Milk glass vase was another piece i inherited from my grandma.

The picture shelf, i actually made that last summer. I was my first time really trying to DIY something mostly on my own. with a little direction form my husband on how to use the nail gun. I think it turned out really nicely.

The coffee table and the side tables are hand me downs form Connors parents. I might sand and stain them to fit the color pallet of my home a bit better in the near future, they are solid wood, so i want to try to extend their life.

Guest/Girls Bathroom

This bathroom is pretty plain, so there's a lot of room to do something special for my girls and guests.

Master Bed Room

So, I may have made a big mistake in this room. you may notice all the furniture is a matching set, kind of a Foux pa these days. I can say, I love each piece individually, together I think it might be a bit much, a bit too dark. I'm thinking in the future getting different nightstands and putting them into my kids' rooms. I want to do something interesting with the walls in here, maybe color drench the entire room and add board and Batton. I also have bay widows in here, so I probably build a bench.  I would also love to add a settee instead of the bench at the foot of the bed, but I wonder if it will be to many seating places close Together? Anyways, lastly, it would be nice to have more pictures in here, maybe a piece of art, of pictures of the girls.

Master Bath

since I took this picture, this room has already changed, I was getting restless with having products piled in baskets, I don't recommend having things us use every day in a basket, especially one that's too small. So, we added a wall cabinet, and I am so happy to have closed storage. this room is going to be the big project of 2025. My husband and I are going to replace the tub, tile, vanity, mirror, paint and anything else that may come up, because with demo we may find something hiding under the walls. I really hope not, but I've built it into the budget for that scenario.

The rest of the house...

That's all I have to show for today, there are more spaces to explore, but we will see if we get to them as we go through 2025! some rooms that are off limits for now are the girls' rooms. There is a basement living space, as of now it is storage for the copious number of tools and scrap wood my husband and I have collected, someday though I would love to turn it into a library, movie, hand out room. My husband office is also down there, I hope to renovate that for him in the future too, but he's always in there! Haha so I'll have to kick him out sometime! anyway, thank you for reading along, or watching if you found me on YouTube! Till next time, see ya!

Below is a video, still under construction!
